Apples to Zucchini offers meaningful ways to get involved, whether you’re looking to share your time, your cooking skills, or gain hands-on experience in a dynamic nonprofit kitchen. We’re a small team doing big work—and we’d love for you to be part of it!

Volunteer

Our classes cannot happen without our awesome volunteers! Support our classes and help make every session run smoothly—no cooking experience required. Volunteers assist with:

  • Guiding students and contributing to a fun, supportive atmosphere

  • Helping with setup, ingredients, and hands-on class tasks

  • Encouraging kids during mealtime and activities

Plus, you’ll get to enjoy some delicious meals alongside our students!

Commitment: One 90-minute weekly class

Culinary Educators

Do you have cooking experience and a love for food? Passion (and patience!) for working with kids? Join our team as a Culinary Educator! This position is paid, rate dependent on experience. We provide:

  • Recipes, lesson plans, and all ingredients

  • A classroom full of eager young chefs

  • A culinary assistant to help you out in class

Commitment: At least one session. Typically sessions last 8 weeks, one class per week, though you can teach multiple classes in a session.

Teen Culinary Internship

Our teen internship program is a meaningful way for high school students to gain real-world experience while earning volunteer hours. Interns support programs including after-school classes, birthday parties, community events, farmers’ market tabling, kitchen and garden work, and more.

  • Earn up to 120 volunteer hours (or 200 for the CA Community Service Excellence Award)

  • Receive Food Handlers certification and First Aid training

  • Build culinary, leadership, team, and communication skills

  • Get resume support and a letter of recommendation

  • Have the opportunity to transition into paid internships
